What’s the Sound of a Dream?
What happens when piano and electronics meet on equal sonic footing, alternating effortlessly between accompaniment and shared moments of solo expression?
These questions motivated the creation of Ako Amo’s debut album.
What’s the Sound of a Dream? is compositional ambient music for critical dreamers—for listeners who dare to get lost in thought, even at the risk of bumping their heads.
Switzerland-based duo Ako Amo – consisting of Martin Reck on electronics and Olivia Zaugg on piano – began as an ambitious live interpretation of Uoon I by Alva Noto and Ryuichi Sakamoto.
To achieve this, they custom-built electronic instruments capable of synthesizing the piece’s sounds in real-time.
Over the following years, this foundation developed into their own distinctive performative and compositional practice and aesthetic.
The debut album is a playful, quirky, and warm continuation of what inspired the duo initially.
Early digital electronics and acoustic piano, piano processing and sensitive sound design make up the Ako Amo sound.
