DUO Zaugg&Widmerin

DUO Zaugg&Widmerin

Sarah Widmer – mezzo-soprano
Olivia Zaugg – accordion/voice

from Barock to Schubert to Yodel

With their program «I will give my love an apple» the two musicians combine their affection for European folk song with their passion for classical art song.

Well-known melodies such as Schönster Abestärn or Chum mir wei go Chrieseli gwünne are placed in dialogue with songs by Schubert and Schumann, as well as two-part yodeling traditions. The program also includes excursions into early Baroque: the distinctive sound of the accordion blends seamlessly with Barbara Strozzi’s descending lamento bass, while Claudio Monteverdi’s well-known solo madrigal Si dolce è’l tormento is given a very particular sonic color.

The program title is taken from an English folk song arranged by Benjamin Britten. The duo takes great pleasure in transforming melodies and creating their own versions. This playful approach to musical material is a defining principle of the young DUO Zaugg&Widmerin, who embrace cross-genre encounters without hesitation.

They are featured on TRUMMER’s album Ir Brandig, released in 2025.

The duo is part of the Kultur am Bettrand programme and performs regularly concerts in hospitals.

Recent concerts: Festival das Lied Bern (BE), Festival Natural Sound (BE), Mühle Hunziken (BE) and Kaufleuten (ZH) with TRUMMER, Secret Garden Party (BE), Cargo Bar (BS), Radiesli-Hof (BE), La Guarida (BE) as collaboration with jazz trio PNEUMA.
